About 5,000 teens are living in Grapevine, Texas. Over 500 of those teens likely experienced serious thoughts of suicide in the past year, and an estimated 800 experienced major depressive episodes.
The key to helping these teens is quality mental health care that treats them like the growing, unique individuals they are. This is exactly the kind of treatment Bricolage provides to youth in the Grapevine area. Let us tell you more about what we do, and most importantly, why it works.
If you’ve been searching for treatment for your teen, you’ve probably run into a lot of treatment centers claiming to be “evidence-based.” That means the methods are backed by trustworthy research, and they’ve improved teens’ mental health. Bricolage is the same in this regard. We ensure all of our treatment has proven results behind it, so we don’t waste your teen’s time and energy with therapy that doesn’t work.
Evidence-based care is vital, but recovery is about more than that. It’s about learning new, healthy skills teens can apply to improve their life circumstances and mental health. The skills we focus on most depend on your teen’s situation. No matter what, we practice those skills over and over until they feel more natural.
Here are a few of the skills your teen might learn and improve at Bricolage:
Many qualities make Bricolage shine. Here are some of our most popular ones.
Learning something in therapy is one thing, but it’s a different challenge altogether to apply that knowledge in real life. We highlight this in our treatment and make sure every teen in our care receives ample time to practice the skills they need to thrive in the real world.
We also don’t constantly harp on teens’ weaknesses and what they’re doing wrong. It’s important to learn what thoughts and behaviors are unproductive, but it’s just as important for teens to know when they’re doing something right. We build our lessons and the strategies teens learn on their strengths, focusing more on building them up than anything else. We always provide an alternative course of action to take, making it much easier to unlearn bad habits and replace them with better ones.
Each treatment plan is built around the child’s strengths and needs. Your teen is unique, and their care under Bricolage will be, too.
At Bricolage, we look at the big picture of teen mental health. Every part of a child’s brain works together to create their thoughts, feelings, and perspective. That means to provide comprehensive healing, we need to take care of each area of the brain – not just one responsible for certain symptoms.
Every child’s family plays a massive role in their healing process. Your support is key during your child’s treatment and after. Of course, it’s not always easy to know how to help them on their journey to better mental health. We account for that in our treatment plans, with our day program including family therapy sessions. There, you’ll learn a fair share of skills yourself that you can apply to your everyday life. This will benefit your child, but it’ll also benefit you!
No matter what level of care your teen participates in, we’ll stay in touch every step of the way. We want you to be involved in their care and recovery, so we’ll keep you updated on their progress and how you can empower them on their mental health journey.
We have significant experience working with teens, with psychiatrists, nurses, and other professionals all on our staff and ready to help your child. We also realize that to be the best we can be, we need to improve and keep learning, too. We are committed to ongoing growth and improvement, continually integrating the latest research to provide the most effective, evidence-based treatment for your teen.

Bricolage offers two primary programs for teens: our intensive outpatient program (IOP) and our day treatment, also known as a partial hospitalization program (PHP).
Both of these are great and helpful options, and which will suit your teen best depends on their needs and treatment goals. Check out our chart below for some comparisons.
| What’s The Program? | What Does a Week Look Like? | How Long Does It Last? | Who Benefits Most? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Intensive outpatient (IOP) | Three-hour meetings three days a week. Weekly health check-in and medication check-in. Various therapies based on your teen’s recovery goals, including whole-group therapy. | Depends on your teen’s needs, but six weeks on average. Can be adjusted as needed, and there’s no “wrong” timeline. | Teens who need treatment, but want to remain in traditional schooling the majority of the time. They are healthy enough to function safely in their regular life and apply the skills they learn in therapy right away. |
| Partial hospitalization/day program (PHP) | Six-hour days, five days a week. Weekly health check-in and medication check-in twice weekly. Two hours of academic support time daily. Various therapies based on your teen’s recovery goals, including whole-group therapy and family therapy. | Depends on your teen’s needs, but six weeks on average. Can be adjusted as needed, and there’s no “wrong” timeline. After the conclusion of PHP, teens will attend IOP, coming out to a total of 12 weeks of treatment on average. | Teens in need of a more intensive, structured treatment plan. Their mental health may interfere significantly enough that attending regular school isn’t reasonable. |
At Bricolage, we don’t limit our treatment to only a few conditions. Every teen seeking to improve their mental health is welcome, whether they’ve received a diagnosis or not.
Here are just some of the mental health conditions and symptoms we address:
This list is not comprehensive. If your teen’s symptoms aren’t represented, we encourage you to still reach out to us. We’ll be happy to help.
When it’s appropriate to provide a diagnosis, we’re well-equipped to do so. However, we think focusing on why kids experience their symptoms is significantly more important.
We believe this for a few reasons:
Bricolage’s treatment is unlike any other facility in the country. Here are just some of the qualities that make us unique.
You’ve probably seen it in movies depicting support groups and group therapy: a counselor of some kind leads a session with individuals in a circle who share something when it’s their turn. This method of group therapy can be helpful for some, but for most teens, it’s boring and a waste of a lot of time.
Bricolage’s whole-group therapy is different. We keep kids engaged every step of the way, engineering this aspect of treatment to minimize downtime. While a therapist talks to a teen individually, others fill out a worksheet or practice important skills in pairs or groups.
We have active discussions involving the whole group, and we keep kids on their toes by randomly selecting teens to contribute to the conversation, rather than following a pre-determined circle. We watch videos, listen to music, read, and learn in different ways to drill lessons into the kids’ brains. This way, we make the most of our time together and equip your child to take on the world outside of our facility.
One of our priorities as mental health professionals is to get to know your teen beyond their symptoms. Everyone has their strengths, motivations, and goals, and learning these is essential to Bricolage’s care. When we take the time to truly listen to the kids who come to us, we build trust and positive relationships with them. This is key to their belief that treatment can benefit them, motivating them to participate.
At Bricolage, we work with your teen to create lasting brain change. They learn healthier habits and the skills they need to reverse dysfunctional patterns in their lives, down to the very circuitry in their brains. This is what it takes to heal comprehensively. It’s not an easy process, but it’s well worth it.
Medication can be an excellent tool in this process, but we don’t see it as a solution by itself. Think of it more as a boost to help your teen tackle the work they need to do to overcome their symptoms for good.
