Over 6,500 adolescents live in Southlake, Texas. Nearly a third of them described their mental health as poor “most of the time” or “always” in 2023. That is a lot of teens who aren’t doing well.
At Bricolage, that concerns us. That’s why our mission is to provide quality mental health care to adolescents in Southlake and surrounding areas. Teens doing “okay” mentally isn’t good enough for us. We want to teach your teen the skills they need to thrive and overcome all the mental and behavioral health obstacles standing in the way of them living their best life.
How do we do it? Let us tell you about our approach and why it’s so effective.
Many treatment centers describe themselves as “evidence-based,” using approaches backed by research and proven to improve mental health. At Bricolage, we hold the same standard. Every therapy we offer is supported by results, ensuring your teen’s time is spent on treatment methods that truly make a difference – but we take it a step further.
Effective treatment models are just one part of the process. Lasting recovery also means giving teens the tools to manage life’s challenges and protect their mental health long after treatment ends. At Bricolage, we customize the skills we teach based on each teen’s individual needs and repeatedly practice them together until they feel natural.
Some of the skills teens build at Bricolage include:
Several features make Bricolage stand out as a one-of-a-kind teen mental health center. We’ll share just a few.
Therapy provides valuable insight, but true progress comes from being able to apply those lessons outside of the walls of a treatment center. That’s why we focus on active practice, ensuring every teen develops the confidence to use what they’ve learned in real-life situations.
Rather than concentrating only on problems or mistakes, we emphasize strengths and highlight the positive steps teens take. When obstacles crop up, we guide them toward healthy ways to overcome them, offering encouragement as opposed to excessive criticism. This strengths-based approach helps teens feel empowered instead of overwhelmed.
Some of the skills your teen may strengthen with us include:
Every teen is unique, which is why each treatment plan at Bricolage is carefully designed around their strengths, weaker areas, and goals. Your child receives care built specifically for them.
We view teen mental health holistically, recognizing that lasting wellness comes from addressing the whole person, not just symptoms.
Family involvement is central to this process. Connection and support from loved ones play a powerful role during treatment and beyond, but knowing how to help isn’t always easy. That’s why our programs include family therapy sessions. These give parents and caregivers practical tools to strengthen communication, provide healthier support, and grow alongside their teen.
No matter the treatment level, we keep families informed with consistent communication and updates, so you always know how your child is progressing and how you can best support them.
Our team is made up of psychiatrists, nurses, and other professionals who specialize in working exclusively with adolescents. We’re committed to learning and growth for teens and for ourselves. By staying up to date on the latest research and refining our practices, we ensure our care is always effective, evidence-based, and aligned with your teen’s individual needs.
We offer two main programs: our intensive outpatient program (IOP) and our partial hospitalization program (PHP), often referred to as day treatment.
What will best serve your teen depends on their circumstances. Both are a great help, but they’re different and built to serve teens at different parts of their mental health journey.
Check out our chart below to learn more.
| What’s The Program? | What Does a Week Look Like? | How Long Does It Last? | Who Benefits Most? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Intensive outpatient (IOP) | Three-hour meetings three days a week. Weekly health check-in and medication check-in. Various therapies are based on your teen’s recovery goals, including whole-group therapy. | Depends on your teen’s needs, but six weeks on average. Can be adjusted as needed, and there’s no “wrong” timeline. | Teens who need treatment, but want to remain in traditional schooling, the majority of the time. They are healthy enough to function safely in their regular lives and apply the skills they learn in therapy immediately. |
| Partial hospitalization/day program (PHP) | Six-hour days, five days a week. Weekly health check-in and medication check-in twice weekly. Two hours of academic support time daily. Various therapies are based on your teen’s recovery goals, including whole-group therapy and family therapy. | Depends on your teen’s needs, but six weeks on average. Can be adjusted as needed, and there’s no “wrong” timeline. After the conclusion of PHP, teens will attend IOP, coming out to a total of 12 weeks of treatment on average. | Teens who need a more intensive, structured treatment plan. Their mental health may interfere significantly enough that attending regular school isn’t reasonable. |
Bricolage’s mental health care takes an approach that many other facilities don’t. The reality is, teen mental health is complicated. Many kids who come to see us have complex diagnoses, having been labeled with multiple conditions. Some, on the other hand, feel unwell, but don’t have an official diagnosis at all. Every teen who needs support for their mental health is welcome at Bricolage. Nothing is too big or too small for us. Here are just a few of the conditions and symptoms we treat:
This is just a brief snapshot of our care. If your teen is managing something outside of this list, please contact us regardless. We’re here for your family.
We can and will diagnose mental health conditions when necessary. With that said, at Bricolage, we treat the “why,” not the “what.” Putting a name to mental health symptoms can be helpful to an extent, but that’s not our primary focus. Why? Because:
We can claim Bricolage’s treatment is top-of-the-line all we want, but why do we believe that’s the case? What makes Bricolage better than any other teen facility in Texas? Here are some of the qualities that make us shine.
You’ve probably seen it in movies: a counselor goes around a circle, having each therapy participant speak one at a time. Maybe they offer something they had trouble with that week, or share an accomplishment. It’s not that this approach can’t be helpful in some ways – but it can be a lot better.
Bricolage’s teen whole-group therapy is group therapy at its best. Here’s why:
Our practice is never boring. Teens learn in a lot of different ways, so we really drive home what they need to know through a variety of practices. We fill out worksheets, journal, roleplay in pairs, watch videos, and more.
At Bricolage, we go beyond a diagnosis or set of symptoms to understand your teen as a whole person. We want to know what motivates them, what inspires them, what gives them strength, and what holds them back. These pieces of who they are matter just as much as the concerns that bring them to us.
We take the time to listen to every teen and work to build their trust. We know how difficult it can be for young people to open up to a mental health professional. That trust becomes the foundation for healing. It helps teens believe in the process, feel safe in treatment, and become active participants in improving their mental health.
At Bricolage, our top priority is helping your teen create lasting changes in their brain. As they practice healthy coping skills and replace unhelpful thoughts and behaviors, their brain actively changes for the better. These changes in the brain are the foundation of genuine healing. It takes effort and consistency, but the results are life-changing.
We view medication as one possible tool in this process, but not the whole solution. Think of it like training wheels. Medication can provide extra stability while a teen develops the skills to manage their symptoms. Whether or not medication remains part of your teen’s long-term treatment plan depends on their unique needs, but it is never the only path to recovery.
