Roughly 1-in-5 Texas youth have a mental, emotional, developmental, or behavioral health condition. When you zero in on Lewisville, that’s about 3,000 kids with mental health concerns interfering with their lives.
How do we improve those troubling numbers?
Supporting teens begins with compassionate, individualized mental health care that recognizes each young person’s unique strengths and potential.
That’s the approach Bricolage brings to youth in the Lewisville area. We’re here to share more about our services and what makes them so effective.
If you’ve been looking for help for your teen, you’ve likely seen lots of centers describe their care as “evidence-based.” This means their treatment approaches are supported by credible research and have a track record of improving teens’ mental health.
At Bricolage, we hold ourselves to the same standard – every aspect of our treatment is grounded in proven results, so your teen’s time and energy are never spent on therapies that don’t make a real difference.
While evidence-based care is essential, recovery is about more than just following the research. It’s also about helping teens build practical, healthy skills they can use to navigate their lives and strengthen their mental health.
The specific skills we emphasize are tailored to each teen’s needs. Once we zero in on those skills, we practice them together until they feel more comfortable.
At Bricolage, your teen might build skills like:
There are many reasons why Bricolage is a great choice for teen mental health treatment. Here are just a few.
Gaining new skills in therapy is valuable, but applying those skills outside of sessions can be a whole new challenge. That’s why, at Bricolage, we make sure every teen has plenty of opportunities to practice and reinforce what they’re learning. This ensures the progress made in therapy translates smoothly into everyday life.
We also believe in a positive, supportive approach. Rather than focusing solely on what teens need to improve, we highlight their strengths and recognize when they’re making positive choices. While understanding unhelpful thoughts and behaviors is part of the process, it’s just as important to celebrate what they’re doing well.
Our strategies and lessons are designed to build confidence and reinforce progress. We always offer clear, constructive alternatives so teens can more easily replace old habits with healthier ones.
Every treatment plan is personalized to each teen’s unique strengths and needs, ensuring that the care your child receives at Bricolage is tailored just for them.
At Bricolage, we take a holistic approach to teen mental health. Since every part of a child’s brain contributes to their thoughts, emotions, and outlook, effective healing means addressing the whole brain, not just focusing on areas linked to specific symptoms.
We also recognize that a child’s family plays a crucial role in their recovery. Your support is essential both during treatment and beyond. We understand it’s not always clear how to best support your teen on their path to better mental health. That’s why our programs include family therapy sessions, where you’ll gain valuable skills to apply in daily life. This not only helps your child, but it improves your mental health, too!
Regardless of the care level your teen receives, we maintain open communication with you throughout the process. We want you actively involved in your child’s recovery, providing updates on progress and guidance on how to support your teen every step of the way.
Our team has extensive experience supporting teens, with psychiatrists, nurses, and other specialists dedicated to helping your child. We also understand the importance of continuous growth and improvement, both in the kids we work with and the care we provide. We follow the latest research in our field closely, ensuring we provide current, top-of-the-line treatment for your teen.
Bricolage provides two main programs for teens: the intensive outpatient program (IOP) and the day treatment program, also called partial hospitalization (PHP).
Both options are effective and beneficial, and the best choice for your teen depends on their individual needs and treatment goals. See the chart below to learn more.
| What’s The Program? | What Does a Week Look Like? | How Long Does It Last? | Who Benefits Most? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Intensive outpatient (IOP) | Three-hour meetings three days a week. Weekly health check-in and medication check-in. Various therapies based on your teen’s recovery goals, including whole-group therapy. | Depends on your teen’s needs, but six weeks on average. Can be adjusted as needed, and there’s no “wrong” timeline. | Teens who need treatment, but want to remain in traditional schooling the majority of the time. They are healthy enough to function safely in their regular life and apply the skills they learn in therapy right away. |
| Partial hospitalization/day program (PHP) | Six-hour days, five days a week. Weekly health check-in and medication check-in twice weekly. Two hours of academic support time daily. Various therapies based on your teen’s recovery goals, including whole-group therapy and family therapy. | Depends on your teen’s needs, but six weeks on average. Can be adjusted as needed, and there’s no “wrong” timeline. After the conclusion of PHP, teens will attend IOP, coming out to a total of 12 weeks of treatment on average. | Teens in need of a more intensive, structured treatment plan. Their mental health may interfere significantly enough that attending regular school isn’t reasonable. |

At Bricolage, our treatment is inclusive and not limited to just a few specific conditions. We welcome any teen looking to improve their mental health, whether or not they have a formal diagnosis.
Some of the mental health concerns we commonly address include:
This is not a complete list. If your teen’s symptoms don’t appear here, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re here to support your family.
When it’s appropriate, we are fully prepared to provide a diagnosis. However, we consider the underlying reasons behind a teen’s symptoms far more important to their recovery.
Here’s why we take this approach:
No other facility in the country does what we do at Bricolage. Here are some of the qualities that really make us shine.
Stereotypical support groups or group therapy involve participants sitting in a circle, each sharing in turn while a counselor leads the session. While this style can benefit some, most teens find it unengaging. Who wants to sit in a circle for an hour, just to talk about their concerns for ten minutes?
Bricolage’s whole-group therapy takes a different approach. We design sessions to keep teens actively involved, minimizing downtime. While a therapist works one-on-one with a teen, others engage with worksheets or practice key skills in pairs or small groups.
Our groups feature lively discussions where participation is encouraged through spontaneous calling rather than going around in a set circle.
We also use a variety of activities—watching videos, listening to music, reading, and interactive learning—to reinforce lessons in dynamic ways. This approach makes the most of our time with your teen and prepares them to confidently face the obstacles of regular life.
As mental health professionals, one of our top priorities is understanding your teen as a whole person, not just focusing on their symptoms. Everyone has unique strengths, motivations, and goals, and discovering these is central to the care we provide at Bricolage. By truly listening to the teens who come to us, we build trust and strong, positive relationships. This foundation is crucial to teens believing in the value of treatment and encouraging their active participation.
At Bricolage, we focus on supporting your teen in creating lasting changes in their brain. Through learning healthier habits and developing essential skills, they work to undo harmful patterns right down to the neural level. This comprehensive healing process isn’t easy, but it’s worthwhile.
While medication can be a valuable part of a teen’s healing journey, we view it as a complementary tool rather than a standalone solution. It can help your teen over some of the difficult bumps on their road to recovery, but they’ll still have to walk it themselves to truly get better.
