At Bricolage Behavioral Health, we offer adult substance use disorder treatment through an evening Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) in Flower Mound, Texas. It’s a structured and evidence-based outpatient care program for those navigating addiction and co-occurring mental health conditions – available Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.
At Bricolage Behavioral Health, we built our evening IOP specifically to close that schedule gap. Adults attend three evenings per week, return home each night, and keep the jobs, family commitments, and daily responsibilities that make daytime treatment inaccessible for most working adults. The whole-group engagement clinical model is the same evidence-based treatment that drives our adolescent program – but applied to the specific needs, life experience, and recovery goals of adults.

Adult substance use disorder treatment at Bricolage covers a wide range of substances and presentations because no two people who walk through our doors are dealing with exactly the same thing. What you share is a pattern of use that has moved past choice and into something that is affecting daily life, relationships, work, or health in ways that are hard to manage alone.
At Bricolage Behavioral Health, we treat the full spectrum of adult substance use disorder through our evening IOP, including co-occurring mental health conditions that are driving or maintaining the use.
The substances we treat include:
Substance use disorder is a clinical condition, and you are not defined by it. When you come to Bricolage, you bring a history, a set of strengths, and a specific reason your use developed the way it did. Understanding that reason is where treatment begins, and where the most meaningful recovery work happens.
The clinical team works with you to identify the specific drivers of your substance use, the co-occurring conditions involved, and the skills you need to build to move forward. The team individualizes treatment plans at intake and reassesses them regularly throughout the program.
The skills you will build in the program include:
Emotional regulation: Managing the intensity of difficult emotions without turning to substances to do it
Trigger identification: Recognizing the specific people, situations, thoughts, and emotional states that drive use
Assertive communication: How to express your needs, set limits, and navigate through conflict – without the need for chemical numbing
Incremental goal setting: Building confidence and forward momentum through achievable and progressive steps
Restructuring negative thoughts: Challenging beliefs about themselves and the world that sustain the cycle of use
Coping strategies for real life: Tools that work in the actual situations you face outside the therapy room
Overcoming failure: Learning to recover from setbacks without using them as a reason to relapse
These skills are practiced in every session until they become the default response, and not something you have to consciously recall. That practice is what makes the change durable.
Many times what started as a way to cope with stress, anxiety, grief, or trauma has become a persistent cycle, and breaking that cycle is genuinely difficult – even when the desire to stop is strong. The path forward starts with identifying your specific emotional pain, skill gaps, and unmet needs, as well as the life circumstances that made using substances feel necessary in the first place.

For adults in Flower Mound and across North Texas, that process looks different depending on where someone is starting from. Some of the most common starting points we see:
People who have been managing anxiety, depression, or unprocessed trauma with substances for years – and know it, but haven't found a way through it
Individuals who completed a higher level of care and need continued structured support to maintain progress without the intensity of inpatient or residential treatment
Adults whose use has escalated to the point where daily functioning – at work, at home, in relationships – is being affected in ways that can no longer be ignored
Those who have tried to stop on their own or with once-a-week therapy and found that the accountability and structure weren't enough to hold the change
Bricolage Behavioral Health treats substance use disorder in adults through an outpatient behavioral health clinical program designed around the reality of adult life. The evening IOP provides the clinical intensity that drives real progress, without asking you to put everything else on hold to receive it.
Before committing to any treatment program, you likely want to know the same things as most other adults – what the clinical work actually looks like, what skills you will leave with, and how the program is different from what you have already tried.
Here is what sets the Bricolage adult IOP apart in the ways that matter most to recovery:
| What Matters | How Bricolage Addresses It |
|---|---|
| Getting to the root of the problem | Every treatment plan is built around the specific underlying cause of each individual's substance use – the emotional pain, skill gaps, and life circumstances driving it |
| Active skill-building | Skills are practiced in every session through role play, pair work, and group activities – carried out of the program and into real life |
| Peer connection and accountability | The whole-group engagement model creates genuine peer relationships and accountability that extend beyond the therapy room |
| Treating the whole person | Co-occurring mental health conditions are addressed alongside substance use from day one |
| A schedule that fits real life | Evening hours mean work, family, and daily responsibilities stay intact throughout treatment |
| Medication-light philosophy | Medication is used judiciously as a clinical catalyst when appropriate |
| Family involvement | Regular communication with loved ones and family sessions are built into the program for participants in PHP |
The framework above reflects the clinical philosophy that shapes every session.
Substance use disorder and mental health conditions are deeply connected, and they almost always travel together. In 2024, 33% of all adults in the United States – over 86 million people – had either a mental health condition or a substance use disorder in the past year, and a significant portion of those adults had both simultaneously.
For most of the people who come to Bricolage, substance use began as a response to something. Whether that is anxiety that never got treated, depression that felt unmanageable, or trauma that never had a safe outlet. As stress accumulates past the point of coping, these substances often become a temporary survival tool. Dual diagnosis treatment means addressing both the substance use disorder and the co-occurring mental health condition at the same time, in the same program, with the same clinical team.
Treating one without addressing the other consistently produces weaker outcomes. If you get sober without addressing the underlying anxiety that drove the use is at significantly higher risk of relapse than if your treatment addressed only one.
At Bricolage Behavioral Health, dual diagnosis treatment is built into our program. Our clinical team assesses for co-occurring conditions during the pre-admission evaluation, and the treatment plan reflects both the substance use component and any co-occurring mental health conditions from day one.
The following co-occurring conditions are commonly addressed alongside substance use disorder in our adult IOP:
Dual diagnosis treatment at Bricolage is fully integrated clinical care that treats the whole person. That integration is what produces the kind of recovery that holds up when life gets hard again.
The neurobiology of recovery shapes how we choose the right tools, and when we decide to use them. The therapeutic modalities used in the adult evening IOP are selected based on what the research consistently shows produces the most durable outcomes in substance use disorder treatment, and matched to each individual's specific clinical presentation.
Understanding what these approaches are and what each one does gives you a clearer picture of what the clinical work inside the program actually looks like.
CBT is one of the most extensively researched therapeutic approaches in addiction treatment. It helps you identify the negative thought patterns and cognitive distortions that drive substance use behavior, and build healthier, more productive ways of thinking and responding. The practical, skill-building nature of CBT makes it particularly well-suited to the whole-group engagement format used at Bricolage.
DBT was developed to help individuals manage intense emotions, tolerate distress, and build more effective interpersonal relationships. For adults in substance use recovery, the distress tolerance and emotion regulation skill sets are particularly relevant. These are often the areas where substance use took hold in the first place, and where the most meaningful clinical work happens.
Seeking Safety is a CBT-based approach designed for people who are navigating co-occurring trauma and PTSD at the same time as a substance use disorder. It helps clients to build safety across thoughts, behaviors, emotions, and relationships while working through trauma and substance use simultaneously – without requiring trauma processing before the immediate stabilization work is done.
CPT helps you to process and reframe a traumatic experience that may be driving or maintaining your substance use. Through structured written assignments and therapist-guided processing, adults learn to identify and challenge unhelpful beliefs that developed as a result of trauma.
Exposure therapy creates a safe and supportive environment for you to gradually face the triggers, situations, and memories that you have been avoiding. The avoidance that often sustains both anxiety-driven mental health conditions and the substance use patterns connected to them.
Bricolage's proprietary facilitation model, in which every participant is actively involved throughout every session through focus tasks, pair work, project-based activities, and role play. This approach ensures skills are built through active practice – not passive listening – producing the kind of neural reinforcement that translates into real behavioral change.
Starting a new treatment program carries a natural level of uncertainty, particularly if you have spent a long time managing on your own. The intake process at Bricolage Behavioral Health is designed to answer your questions, confirm the right fit, and reduce uncertainty before your first evening session begins.
The intake process moves through four clear steps:

The first call. You speak directly with a member of our admissions team – a real person, available seven days a week – who listens to what is going on, answers your questions honestly, and helps determine whether the adult evening IOP is clinically appropriate for your situation. There is no obligation at this stage and no pressure to decide anything before you feel ready. Our admissions team is available Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 9:00 PM and Saturday through Sunday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. 📞 469-972-8465

The pre-admission assessment. A comprehensive and no-cost biopsychosocial evaluation with a licensed clinician – available Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. The assessment covers your substance use history, mental health history, trauma history, current functioning, and your own goals for treatment. It takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes and is the clinical foundation for everything that follows. We don't assume anything about the treatment plan – we build it from what the assessment reveals.

Insurance verification. Our admissions team will contact your insurance carrier to confirm coverage for our adult IOP. After, we will explain your specific out-of-pocket costs before treatment begins. We are in-network with most major plans, and we accept Medicaid.

Program start. Once the assessment is complete and coverage is confirmed, we set your start date and share everything you need to know before your first evening session. The first session begins the same way every session does – with the group, active participation from the start, and a clinical team trained to bring even the most apprehensive new participants in at a manageable pace.
The intake process at Bricolage moves quickly because our team understands that the window between deciding to get help and actually starting is where most people change their minds. Getting you from the first call to the first session as smoothly as possible is our main priority.

Substance use disorder is a treatable condition – and the adults who make the most durable recoveries are the ones who get the right level of support at the right time, and who find a program that addresses what has been driving the use, not just the use itself.
The Bricolage Behavioral Health, adult evening IOP is built for adults who are ready to do the work and need a program that fits around the life that continues outside of it. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. Evidence-based. Skills-focused. Joint Commission accredited. In-network with major insurance and Medicaid.
The first step is a single phone call. Our admissions team is here, the assessment is free, and you won't commit to anything until you feel clear and ready. Call us at 469-968-5700 to get started today.
The adult evening IOP at Bricolage Behavioral Health meets Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at our Flower Mound facility at 3204 Long Prairie Road, Suite A. Each session is three hours in length, for a total of nine hours of structured clinical contact per week. The average program length is approximately six weeks, based on each individual's clinical progress and reassessed regularly by the treatment team throughout the program. Participants return home each evening and maintain their regular work and family schedule on non-program days.
Yes. Dual diagnosis treatment – addressing co-occurring substance use disorder and mental health conditions simultaneously – is built into the core of the adult evening IOP at Bricolage Behavioral Health. The pre-admission assessment screens for co-occurring conditions including anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, OCD, panic disorder, and emotional dysregulation.
When a co-occurring condition is identified, it is incorporated into the treatment plan from day one and addressed through the same evidence-based modalities used throughout the program. There is no separate track or additional enrollment process for dual diagnosis treatment; it is integrated clinical care from intake through discharge.
At Bricolage Behavioral Health we believe that whole family healing affords your child the best chance for long term mental health and can put your loved ones on the path to a healthier, happier life.
